- The peritoneum is opened through a longitudinal incision made down to the angle between the vas deferens and the medial umbilical ligament
- If a lymph node dissection is planned, the peritoneal incision should be extended and the vas deferens should be cut
- The median ligament is not detached to prevent the bladder from dropping down
